Support Housing and the CTC in the $3.5T Build Back Better Bill
The House passed the Budget Resolution (by only
three votes!), which is the framework agreement for the $3.5 trillion
social infrastructure bill/Build Back Better that the Senate passed two
weeks ago. Now the hard work begins in committees of jurisdiction to
start building this enormous funding proposal. It is already facing
opposition by big business and corporations because of how the package
will be funded - raising the business tax rate from 21% to 28% as well
taxing overseas earnings. Big corporations like ExxonMobil, Pfizer, Walt
Disney Co, big banks, and tech titans don't want to pay their fair
share. The opposition is being coordinated by the US Chamber of
Commerce. FAN has signed onto a letter with our national partners
highlighting the important pieces of this package that we will continue
to support.
Given all this pressure, your voice to your
three members of Congress - Murray, Cantwell, and your House member - is
strongly needed! Because this budget resolution
will take weeks before the final vote, this week's emphasis is on
housing and the Child Tax Credit. Ask your member of congress if they
will support:
- Expanding rental assistance to all those eligible (estimated at $100 billion a year)
- Preserving Public Housing ($70 billion)
- Funding for the National Housing Trust Fund ($45 billion)
- Making permanent the Expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), including eligibility for immigrant children with ITINs.
