Economic justice advocates gathered this past weekend for the Faith + Labor Roundtable's dynamic and informative progressive revenue messaging training. The "Tax the Rich For Goodness' Sake" event featured FAN's Policy Engagement Director Kristin Ang who highlighted our current progressive budget policy demands and SEIU6's Communications Director, Erin Sroka who led us in some creative sign and video making.
We made a powerful video that we are sharing directly to Washington House Representatives, Senate Democrats and Governor Bob Ferguson.
You can find the video on our YouTube channel, and our Facebook page. You will also find it on SEIU6 & FAN Instagram when we publish it soon and be sure to follow us while you wait. If you feel inspired by our message, we encourage you to share it with your friends, and organizational networks!
As we enter the final days of the legislative session we want to leave you with some empowering words from the event. Pastor Joe Sheeran centered this work in our faith and spiritualities, specifically referencing Holy Saturday from the Christian tradition saying, "We too are made not just for work, but made for joy and abundance, our cosmic value is not bound up in our productivity but who we are." Pastor Phil Lewis lifted up the value of workers and dignity of all people saying, "We begin to imagine a world where livable wages are not a dream but are a given. We imagine a world where teachers never have to prove their work over and over again because we believe in the inherent value of education. We imagine a state that doesn't balance its budget on the backs of everyday working-class people and families but are a reflection, as Dr. King says, "...of an agenda for the people not the powerful." |
