In a time when progressive revenue is on the line, the Faith + Labor roundtable gathered this weekend to share clear messages with our lawmakers: "Treat People as Sacred", "Tax Enough for Education Food Banks and Affordable Housing," "Fund Public Schools" "There's Enough Here for Every Washingtonian to Live an Abundant Live, Tax the Rich!", "Budget Choices = Moral Choices" and "Govern 4 Joy not Profit."

Week 15 Early Edition - Rally TOMORROW for a Moral Budget

At FAN, we believe that how we raise and spend public money is a moral choice. This session offers a historic opportunity to shift Washington’s upside-down tax code and ensure a budget rooted in equity, care, and shared responsibility.

We call on lawmakers and the Governor to:

  • Finalize a budget that centers human dignity and public good.
  • Pass progressive tax reforms.
  • Protect vulnerable communities through smart, compassionate investments.

📣 TAKE ACTION

🎯Show up for tomorrow's rally in Olympia

🎯Contact your legislators and urge them to support a just and equitable state budget.  Personalize and sign the letters below if you haven't yet.

📅 Sine Die is Sunday, April 27 — Let’s finish strong for justice, equity, and hope.

Fix HB 1217: While the Senate passed HB 1217 on April 10, they added harmful amendments that would allow rent increases of up to 10% plus inflation (CPI) and exclude renters in single-family homes, leaving thousands unprotected. These changes threaten to fuel displacement, evictions, homelessness, and gentrification. Join FAN and our coalition partners as we are call on lawmakers to reject these amendments and pass a final bill that caps rent increases at 7% for all renters, 5% for manufactured homeowners, and includes renters regardless of housing type.

Tell Your Legislator to Fix Rent Stabilization

Fully Fund Health Equity for Immigrants: Join WAISN and the Health Equity for Immigrants Campaign as we flood the inboxes of budget writers with one unified message: migrant healthcare is non-negotiable and Apple Health Expansion must be off the chopping block and fully funded.

Urge Budget Writers to Fully Fund Health Equity for Immigrants

Progressive Revenue: Many of our legislators have boldly proposed new progressive revenue sources to avert devastating cuts to vital state services and programs. As big business unleashes their lobbyists to oppose these progressive proposals, we must urge our legislators and Governor to do the right thing and pass these bills. Bold Statements from Faith + Labor this past weekend!

Economic justice advocates gathered this past weekend for the Faith + Labor Roundtable's dynamic and informative progressive revenue messaging training. The "Tax the Rich For Goodness' Sake" event featured FAN's Policy Engagement Director Kristin Ang who highlighted our current progressive budget policy demands and SEIU6's Communications Director, Erin Sroka who led us in some creative sign and video making.

We made a powerful video that we are sharing directly to Washington House Representatives, Senate Democrats and Governor Bob Ferguson.

You can find the video on our YouTube channel, and our Facebook page. You will also find it on SEIU6 & FAN Instagram when we publish it soon and be sure to follow us while you wait. If you feel inspired by our message, we encourage you to share it with your friends, and organizational networks!

As we enter the final days of the legislative session we want to leave you with some empowering words from the event. Pastor Joe Sheeran centered this work in our faith and spiritualities, specifically referencing Holy Saturday from the Christian tradition saying, "We too are made not just for work, but made for joy and abundance, our cosmic value is not bound up in our productivity but who we are." Pastor Phil Lewis lifted up the value of workers and dignity of all people saying, "We begin to imagine a world where livable wages are not a dream but are a given. We imagine a world where teachers never have to prove their work over and over again because we believe in the inherent value of education. We imagine a state that doesn't balance its budget on the backs of everyday working-class people and families but are a reflection, as Dr. King says, "...of an agenda for the people not the powerful."
