PURSUE ECONOMIC JUSTICE AND ENSURE BASIC NEEDS  

  • The Millionaire’s Tax would fund core programs like the Working Families Tax Credit, K-12 education, and health care by taxing annual earnings over $ 1 million.(SB 6346 Pedersen). Passed Senate 2/16! Referred to House Rules on 3/2. We have heard that calls are one of the most effective ways to make an impact right now. Please call your legislators using this dialing campaign.

DEFEND and ADVANCE IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE RIGHTS 

  • Immigrant Worker Protection Act: would require employers to notify workers whenever federal officials request their employment eligibility information; disallows employers from voluntarily giving immigration agents access to non-public business premises without a warrant (HB 2105 Ortiz-Self).   • Secure and Accountable Federal Enforcement (SAFE) Act: Expand and codify model policies developed by the state Attorney General to increase immigrant protections at or near K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and publicly operated health care facilities. (SB 5906 Hansen) Passed Senate! Placed on House floor calendar on 3/2.Send your PRO comment to your Representatives here.

  • Private detention Reporting: Require both private detention facilities and law enforcement agencies with private detention facilities in their jurisdiction to report certain types of incidents to the Department of Health. CULTIVATE CLIMATE and ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE 

  • Look for letters to sign on the CCA and HEAL budgets in our Friday e-news

  • Establish a State Transmission Authority to put the state in the driver’s seat on our electric grid’s future by helping build new transmission and fill key gaps. Also establishes a tribal clean energy partnership work group. The need to act on transmission cannot be understated: a stronger grid will keep our lights on, keep costs low for ratepayers, and bring more clean energy online. (SB 6355, Hunt). Passed Senate. REFORM OUR CARCERAL SYSTEM & STRENGTHEN POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY 

  • Standards for Law Enforcement Leaders: Strengthens, updates, and makes consistent eligibility and accountability standards for sheriffs, police chiefs and other law enforcement leaders (SB 5974 Lovick). FOSTER RIGHTS, BELONGING & PLURALISM

  • Prevent Interference with Place of Worship: Creates a new offense of intentionally preventing or substantially hindering entry or exit from a place of worship or intentionally disrupting the normal functioning of religious services.
